The Geocycles Research Centre evolved from the Excellence Cluster “Geocycles – Time and Space in Earth System Sciences”, which was established in 2005 in the course of the Rhineland-Palatinate initiative “Wissen Schaft Zukunft”. The centre is based on the cooperation between four recognized scientific institutions in Mainz: The Johannes Gutenberg University, the Max-Planck-Institute for Chemistry, the Roman-Germanic Central Museum and the Institute for Spatial Information and Surveying Technology i3. With these four institutions at hand, the city of Mainz provides excellent opportunities for innovative and interdisciplinary research.
