Israeli and Mainz researchers present their first findings, consisting of architectural models
    31/03/2010

In 2002, about 20 kilometers south of Tel Aviv, archaeologists discovered a sensational find of several thousand ceremonial objects from the 9th and 8 century BC. Meanwhile, the first group of finds is reconstructed and now presented to the public by a team of scientists from Israel and Mainz. The finds are architectural clay-models, which resemble a cult building from the days of the Philistines. The scientists hope that further evaluations of the sensational discovery also give an indication of where the Philistines originally came from. The first volume of the ongoing publications appears now with the publisher Vandenhoeck & Ruprecht (Göttingen) and Academic Press (Fribourg / Switzerland).

The research-project was financed by the Research Fund of the University of Mainz, by the Geocycles Research Centre at the JGU Mainz as well as the Erich and Maria Russell-Fund (Frankfurt).
