Teeth and their surrounding structures are exceptionally good research subjects for various scientific disciplines. This anthology illuminates a multidisciplinary team of scientists from the current state of research in dental comparative morphology. By focusing on the interdisciplinary aspects of this research and the latest methods of data analysis and -acquisition, the authors show how this can make a valuable contribution to understanding the life history of vertebrates. Topics are the areas of dental evolution and dental morphology, dental tissue, the growth and development of teeth and the clinical aspects of these areas. It also presents the most recent molecular analytic methods and non-destructive imaging techniques. In addition, the book illuminates the role of teeth as source of information about the nature and behavior of past populations. This book is based on selected papers of the 14th International Symposium of Dental Morphology 2008 and is aimed at researchers in the dental sciences, anatomy, evolutionary biology, paleoanthropology, paleontology, archeology, anthropology, comparative anatomy, genetics and the forensic sciences.
