I3 - Institute for Spatial Information and Surveying Technology

Research, development and technology transfer form the core of i3mainz's activities. Maintained by the University of Applied Science's teaching unit for geoinformatics and surveying, both teaching and research benefit in equal measure from the expertise of this institute. The work of i3mainz is distinguished in several specific areas: the centre of competence “spatial information technology in humanities", then the main area of emphasis, 3D-surveying technology, spatial information systems and information technology. Scientific further education was recently established as the newest area. The dynamic growth of spatial information and surveying technology is constantly enveloping new fields of work, not only in geology and environmental sciences. Particularly the centre of competence "spatial information in humanities" is a good example for the continuous further development of interdisciplinary activities by researchers from cultural heritage preservation, archaeology, history and other social science disciplines. Further areas of daily life such as tourism, internet based data services or telecommunications also form part of i3mainz's research projects.
